The consultancies were appointed following a call for entries which launched at the end of last year.

Creative Concern will work on the brand strategy, while O Street will work on creative elements.

A new £19 million arts and cultural centre, which is being designed by Dutch architect Mecanoo, is being built on First Street in central Manchester to house the new organisation. This is set to open in 2014.

The new organisation will produce, host and support a wide-ranging programme of arts, learning and participation, creative industries and digital innovation.

Creative Concern and O Street will now work with audiences, partners and staff to develop the new name and branding, which will launch in October.

And Manchester couldn’t proffer a design consultancy worthy of this job? Why again, do the powers that be think is right to hand work out of the region? There are plenty of North West agencies very capable of delivering such an iconic project. Surely Creative Concern have a creative department? If they’re working on the brand strategy why o why are they not working on the creative interpretation of it?

O Street look interesting. Of course Manchester has agencies capable of doing the visualisations. But they didn’t win the work in this case. Having an embargo would have been unhelpful. Who would want Manchester talent confined to Manchester work?
