The Warwick-based consultancy received the honour to mark its sales in overseas markets.

Exports account for 73 per cent of the consultancy’s turnover and its overseas earnings have risen by nearly 50 per cent in the past three years.

DCA has created a number of products including the Solo Star disposable pen injector, which won the Grand Prix at the Design Business Association Design Effectiveness Awards in 2009.

Robert Woolston, managing director of DCA, says, ‘We are so proud to have been granted this award and pleased for the growth and performance of DCA to be recognised in such an exciting way.’

A total of 209 Queen’s Awards were announced this year, with nearly 25 per cent of entrants winning an award.

Disposable Insulin pens are so badly designed – I find them clunky and inefficient in injecting the right amount. Plus, they’re so bad for the environment. I now use re-fillable cartridges, and find the difference incredible.

As a type-1 diabetic, who has used these awful pens everyday for the past three years, I’m shocked and worried to see that they have been given an award!?!!!

What’s award-winning about a pen that uses up way more plastic and doesn’t work properly?
