Emil Asgrimsson solo exhibition
There’s a very nuanced aesthetic to Icelandic design, art, and music, especially when work reflects the country’s often ethereal, beautiful and earthy qualities.
Icelander Emil Asgrimsson, a Central St. Martins College of Art and Design student, is presenting his first solo show, billed as being inspired by ‘landscapes, geology and science,’ across collage, illustration and moving image.
Asgrimsson generally manages to tackle these galactic themes without making his work look like Rick Wakeman album art, and there’s much to be celebrated.
He is already finding commercial success, as the winner of a River Island illustration competition, and his work has featured in an iPad version of James Gleick’s book The Information.
Iceland is brewing quite a design culture, particularly in the digital realm as Design Week found out in 2010.
Emil by Asgrimsson runs from 16 February – 31 March at The Book Club, 100 Leonard Street, EC2A 4RH
