Kites swoop into The Public gallery
Taking inspiration from geometric rock forms found in the US desert town of Quartzsite, Arizona, artists Heather and Ivan Morison have designed a pair of kite structures for West Bromwich based gallery The Public as part of its Art of Architecture season.
Two pieces, The Opposite of All Things, and Kind Wise and Loving, each measuring 5m long, will be suspended from the gallery ceiling, and if you chose to suspend your disbelief, you might believe the gallery’s claim that the kites can actually fly.
The Morison’s worked with Kite Related Design – a company who’s specialism should be obvious – to realise the project.
Although they take on the form of the rocks, the kites are otherwise opposite – large, lightweight and man-made.
The Art of Architecture season also includes a piece by architect Will Alsop whose work A Box of Delights is designed to make us think about architecture and how it makes us feel.
The kites can be seen at The Art of Architecture exhibition from 25 February – 20 May at The Public, New Street, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B70
