Philip Watts Design creates interiors for first US branch of YO! Sushi

Philip Watts Design is designing the interiors for Yo! Sushi’s first restaurant in the US, which is due to open at Union Station in Washington DC.

The consultancy was appointed to the project in August last year, having been recommended to Yo! Sushi on the strength of its work for branches including Nottingham, Liverpool, Cambridge and shopping centres such as Kent’s Bluewater. The US branch is owned by a separate company to the UK branches.

David Steeples, senior designer at Philip Watts Design, says, ‘The whole point of the first one [in the US] is to get the whole Yo! Sushi style in to show what it’s all about. It’s very much using the Yo! Sushi branding with the orange and the logo, and also touching on Japanese inspiration.’

The approximately 158m2 space will feature Japanese-inspired graffiti and graphics in the bold Yo! Sushi brand colours of orange and red. One wall will use a ‘crazy paving’ style stone finish, and the other will feature vertical cedar slats.

Philip Watts, Philip Watts Design founder, says, ‘We are incredibly excited and honoured to be designing the first Yo! in the states. This represents a real challenge for us, and we know we can bring a bit of PWD magic to the American diners.’

It is hoped the restaurant will open in March or April this year.
