‘The most glamourous flea market’ comes to Soho

This May will see the grand unveiling of the one-day City Showcase: Soho Flea Market in Dean Street, London, showcasing the work of emerging design and art talent over about 80 stalls – what we’re promised will be the ‘most glamourous’ Flea Market you’ve ever seen.

The Flea Market has been set up by Nanette Rigg, and will be raising money for HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

Stalls will feature work from furniture designers, glass sculptors, and games developers – among other disciplines – all sound tracked by musicians playing live on the City Showcase outdoor stage.

Rigg says, ‘The City Showcase has been around for a while, and we’ve got a track record of supporting new and emerging musicians. We were keen to find a way not only to showcase but help people into distribution.’

Rigg has been in talks with Soho Estate and Westminster Counicil about the project for a couple of years; and both organisations, as well as Crossrail have helped the project into fruition. Though many are already on board, businesses in the Dean Street area are still being sought for their input in the project – whether that be showing exhibitions of design, photography or artworks; or in hosting musicians for the day.

She says, ‘It’s not just for creatives, we’d like as many businesses as we can in Soho to get involved to celebrate creative talent in-house.’

Fawn James of Soho Estates adds, ‘This vibrant and exciting concept is a fantastic addition to Soho. Soho is about independent and talented creative minds and businesses and City Showcase: Soho  Flea Market is the perfect event to showcase the best of what we have to offer to the world.’

The call for applications is open until 9 March. For more information visit http://www.sohofleamarket.com
