Vimeo launches redesign

Video-sharing site Vimeo is rolling out a redesign which the company says is ‘based around maximising the user experience’.

The redesign was developed in house and Vimeo says it has ‘rebuilt the site from the ground up.’

The redesigned site became available for closed testing yesterday, with a set number of users able to sign up. Vimeo says it plans to make open sign-ups available for its members in the coming weeks as it rolls out the design.

Vimeo says the new site design doubles the size of the video-player window as well as improving the navigation and introducing features such as allowing users to play videos from their personal homepages.

The new design also features a pull-down video discovery bar on the video page and the new ‘related videos’ recommendation engine.

Sockyung Hong, Vimeo vice-president of design and user experience, says, ‘We completely rethought the user experience to eveolve Vimeo into something that meets our users’ needs today and tomorrow.

‘Our goal was to strike a balance between friendly and elegant while still preserving our fun personality.’
