Ho’s prints and books explore ‘the borderline between beauty and beast’, according to thehost, Material Gallery in Shropshire, and ‘the energy shifts between life and sleep, and sleep and death.’
As well as creating prints and animations, Ho also teaches Japanese woodblock technique. Oh, and this is when she’s not working part time as a veterinary surgeon.
As the show’s title suggests, much of the work is influenced by the idea of flight, such as the beautiful dancing dresses animation, entitled Shift. This is created by 40 prints, carved onto Japanese vinyl.
The eerie Costanza animation, meanwhile, is about a ghost in an Italian castle, and shows a woman’s feet and legs caught in a strange, almost shamanic dance.
The Lucid Mask animation about lucid dreams is created from a series of engraved vinyl prints, making up the individual frames.
Flight runs from 5 – 26 May at Material Gallery, 131 Corve Street, Ludlow, Shropshire SY8
