The revamped site, which will launch early next year, forms part of a wider project funded by a £12.7 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant that will see the major redevelopment of the RA’s Burlington Gardens site by architect David Chipperfield.

According to the RA, the new digital strategy looks to enhance how people can engage with the museum’s art and artists online, though the funding will not cover a full redesign of the Collections website.

It adds that the further digitisation of the collections will enable the RA and Ideo to produce digital offers such as apps and digital publications, and ‘continue our work in surfacing “stories from the Collections” on our social media channels’.

The current Collections site allows users to search the RA’s collections including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, historic books, archives, historic photographs and plaster casts.

There is also access to exhibition catalogues and editorial, with the Object of the Month and Artist of the Month features.
