Comic artists illustrate the news
The people behind free-sheet comic Off Life have started a new project, Yellow, which will see a different artist illustrate the week’s news every week for a year.
So far Stanley Chow, Grace Wilson and Takayo Akiyama have had a go and although they’ve concentrated on a particular event in a given week, others will pick up on a number of themes.
The work is being hosted on Off Life’s site and the project is set to continue until December 2015, when it will also be published in book form.
Off Life says: “With no set political persuasion or style guide, Yellow will gradually build an illustrated take on a whole year of news from 52 unique perspectives.”
The project takes its name from “yellow journalism” – a term given to badly researched, sensationalist journalism.
Jean Jullien and Paul Davis are lined up but Off Life wants more artists to come forward.
Off Life, which is looking for illustrators and artists of all types says: “We have a briefing and design document ready to go, with all rights and payments laid out in black and white, and so would encourage any interested artists to contact us.”
