Climate kid

Unicef has launched a campaign to encourage children and young people to think about and tackle climate change centred around the cute – and blue – Climate Kid, animated by Tom Baker.

The video (which you can watch below) was produced by not-for-profit public service Do the Green Thing, was written by Pentagram’s Naresh Ramchandani and has been voiced by journalist Jon Snow.

The concept for the animation is to show how an ordinary child will need to develop extraordinary body parts – think fins, flippers and funnels – to cope with the environment that will result from the floods, cyclones, droughts and food shortages that global warming will create.

The project also aims to further engage children by asking them to think of other evolutionary body misshapes that might occur if nothing is done to cut carbon emissions. Children that come up with interesting suggestions will get the chance to win one of severally specially commissioned illustrations inspired by Climate Kid, including this dramatic piece by illustrator Ben Tallon.
