De Padova honours Magistretti

Italian furniture brand De Padova is to establish a design award honouring Italian designer and architect Vico Magistretti, who died last year.

According to a De Padova spokeswoman, the competition will involve ‘designing a project in the spirit of Magistretti’, but full details of the competition, which will run in conjunction with, will be announced in Milan on 1 April. The competition closes on 30 June, after which an international jury will select three winners, and the first prize of €3000 (£2025) will be awarded in September 2007.

Magistretti, who died in September last year, is celebrated as one of Italy’s finest post-war designers, and is credited with being among the first to popularise plastic furniture in the 1960s.
