Minister pushes role of design in UK industry

Minister of State for Science and Innovation Ian Pearson will add weight to the importance of innovation and design within the UK manufacturing sector when he addresses a conference in London today.

The conference, UK Manufacturing – The High Value Future, will examine how the Government plans to revitalise UK manufacturing through its science and innovation strategy, due out in the spring.

Pearson is expected to acknowledge the role of design in the ‘support, sales and marketing’ of new products, as well as innovation and research and development.

He will also underline the roles of both the Technology Strategy Board and the Design Council in creating the intellectual property framework, the business network and the commercial applications needed to develop the UK economy.

The conference will take place at 1 Birdcage Walk, Westminster, London SW1 from 9.30am today.
