Stockholm design fairs launch

The Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair begin tomorrow, showcasing the work of hundreds of Nordic, German and Italian furniture and lighting designers.

This year’s event will link up with Stockholm Design Week, which runs during the same week and features about 50 events and exhibitions.

Visitors to the trade fair’s Design Bar – which combines a bar and exhibition space – will experience the work of Swedish designers Save Our Souls. Titled Disaster Area, the area will focus on the theme of conflict and environmental change.

Other highlights include the Craft Café, which is being organised by New York designer Stephen Burks’ consultancy, Readymade Projects. The exhibition will feature craft items designed by Burks.

The event organisers claim that this is the world’s biggest trade fair for Nordic design, and expect more than 40 000 visitors.

This year’s guest of honour is the Italian architect Giulio Cappellini.

The Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair run from 6-10 February at Stockholm International Fairs. See www.stockholmfurniturefair.com for more information.
