Redpath has designed the branding for the Edinburgh International Science Festival, which is due to take place in April.

The charity appointed Redpath in June after it invited the Edinburgh-based consultancy to conduct a credentials pitch, for which it paid costs.

Redpath was briefed to undertake the science festival’s first rebrand in more than ten years.

Redpath’s challenge, according to chair Andrew Hunter, was to create an identity that could appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds, neither appearing ‘too highbrow or dumbed down’.

The graphic design group attempted to overcome this challenge by opting for bold colours and by punctuating the text with science-themed icons.

Besides the festival identity, Redpath has also created a logo for its touring programme, Generation Science, as well as developing a range of promotional materials for the 2009 festival.

Edinburgh International Science Festival takes place from 4 -18 April.
