London 2012 Olympics appoints ceramic and crystal firm

WWRD, owner of Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton, has been appointed to produce ceramic and crystal products for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The company will produce ranges of ceramic and crystal products, including a number of limited-edition Waterford, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton pieces.

A selection of the ceramic products will be produced in the UK, while selected Waterford Crystal items will be produced in the Republic of Ireland. The products will go on sale later this year.

Tenders for licensed merchandising opportunities, including ceramics and glassware, were held last year.

Charlie Wijeratna, London 2012 director of commercial negotiations, says, ‘It is fantastic to have WWRD involved. Its brands are iconic, incorporating the best of British and Irish design and tradition.’

Three cheers, WWRD! We collectors in Australia also rejoice for the staff in the UK. We will only purchase “Made in England” products. That means good old fashioned quality. We are also glad that jobs that require training and great skill are being retained.
