Redwood Cricket Co.
Steve Taylor and Tom Heaton, of Salford-based consultancy We Are Raw, have collaborated with former county-cricketer Scott Richardson to create cricket bat company Redwood Cricket Co.
Taylor and Heaton have developed a brand and overseen all visual aspects while Richardson has concentrated on product development.
A strapline ‘designed, grown and hand-crafted in England’ is used on the bats, referencing their provenance, which is applicable to all material including the willow and the rubber handle.
Taylor, who took inspiration from the Industrial Revolution says, ‘This period in time proved to be a fertile ground for ideas. The logotype references the proud typefaces seen on the side of mills and forged in steel.
‘The names and personalities of the bats (The Maker, The Artisan and The Sleeper) found their inspiration from the era, while the monogram seal was designed as a final mark of quality.’
Product shots by Steve Longbottom were commissioned ‘to show the quality of the raw materials,’ the bat-making process and the bats themselves, says Taylor.
