The ‘wizard worlds’ of illustrator Rob Flowers
For the next two weeks, London print studio Printer of Dreams’ window is being taken over by illustrator Rob Flowers, who will be visually telling his Tales of the Crystal Wood.
Flowers’ bold, brilliant and bizarre imagery will depict his ‘wizard worlds’, full of odd and beguiling characters drawing on pop-culture, folklore and mythology.
‘Rob Flowers’ illustrations don’t just evoke the nostalgia of a childhood spent amidst the day-glow of a 1980s Saturday morning cartoon marathon, they explode in Technicolor glory’, says Printer of Dreams.
Indeed, these surreal images feature all sorts of kaleidoscopic kids’ motifs including cartoons, Happy Meal toys and ideas borrowed from 80s Cabbage Patch Kids parody Garbage Pail Kids.
Throughout Flowers’ two-week tenure at the gallery, he will be producing three limited edition Rob Flowers x Printer of Dreams Giclée prints.
Printer of Dreams says, ‘Rob’s work may look like a wonderful walk on the wild side, look a little closer and you¹ll often find beyond the whimsical imagery far darker elements at play.’
Rob Flowers will be at Printer of Dreams, 53 Amwell Street, Angel, London, EC1R until 28 February
