Fashion retailer Next is understood to have appointed retail design specialist Dalziel & Pow to handle a £40m revamp of its stores.

According to reports, the consultancy will undertake an overhaul of the chain’s high street stores, which are in need of more ‘excitement’, Next chief executive Simon Wolfson admitted last week.

In the six months to Christmas, Next stores suffered a fall of 6.9 per cent in underlying revenues. Eleven out of 450 stores have been redesigned to some extent, although Wolfson said that the shop fit can be improved.

A spokeswoman for Next declined to comment on the reported appointment of Dalziel & Pow or the refit programme. Consultancy creative director David Dalziel was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
