Morgans Hotel Group has revealed that it will open Bungalow 8, its India Mahdavi-designed nightclub below the St Martins Lane hotel in London, this May.

The Spoon restaurant, at its other London property The Sanderson, which is also to be redesigned by the interior designer-cum-architect, will now re-open in March, rather than in February as anticipated.

Morgans is undertaking a slew of design projects with new designers and last week announced the appointment of iconic Dutch designer Marcel Wanders to create its first luxury hotel residences in Miami.

The project at the hotel residences on Miami’s Mondrian South Beach has been dubbed the ‘Sleeping Beauty’s castle’ by Wanders, the world-renowned design star. It will feature lush tropical landscaping leading to the interior. Wanders will extend the existing building to form a semicircular, sculptural structure, in which the rooms resemble theatre boxes overlooking the gardens below. He will also furnish the residences with original pieces from his design studio, which produces products from lighting to flooring, including chairs, tables and sofas.

All projects by the boutique hotel group, founded by Ian Schrager, have been undertaken under the direction of new vice-president of design Mari Balestrazzi. The overhaul effectively severs ties with Philippe Starck, who worked closely with Schrager in the design of the iconic hotels (DW 12 October 2006).
