Pret a Manger and H&M are among eight brands singled out in the fifth annual Brands with a Conscience list.

International branding and business think tank The Medinge Group has selected eight companies as examples of successful businesses with a strong sustainable and socially responsible focus.

The chosen brands were Aveda, Chocolonely, Hennes & Mauritz, Happy Computers, International Watch Co and Pret a Manager. Dame Anita Roddick was recognised posthumously for her success in developing her name into a brand with a highly regarded reputation.

Ian Ryder, founding member and director of The Medinge Group, says, ‘Each year since we began these awards, the world has become increasingly concerned about planetary sustainability. Some of our featured brands have been concerned for years about these issues. They have actually demonstrated their commitment and not just talked about it.’

Criteria for the Brands with a Conscience list include sustainability values, reputation and direct experience. Sweden-based The Medinge Group is a not-for-profit collective of brand professionals who meet regularly to discuss trends in international branding.
