Mathers to leave the Brand Union

John Mathers, UK chief executive of The Brand Union, is to leave the consultancy at the end of the month by mutual agreement.

Mathers says he has been considering leaving the group for some time to pursue ‘new challenges’, but stayed on to help oversee its transition from Enterprise IG to The Brand Union.

He joined the consultancy from WPP sister group Fitch in 1998, working on key client accounts including SAB Miller and Mars. He remains a director of the Design Business Association.

A new management structure in place at the group’s London office will effectively see Mathers replaced by Simon Bailey, who was promoted from client services director to managing director last year.

‘I am looking forward to learning to fly fish, taking my motorbike test and reducing the golf handicap, but I will certainly be looking for future employment,’ Mathers says.
