The Brand Union has promoted managing director Simon Bailey to the role of UK chief executive.

Bailey joined the WPP consultancy in 2004 as client services director, and was appointed to the post of managing director last year.

The UK chief executive role at The Brand Union had been empty since the departure of John Mathers last year, and Simon Bolton remains in post as worldwide chief executive.

Bailey says, ‘We’ve had a tremendously exciting year – we’ve welcomed new clients and new projects, and also picked up Eurobest, Graphis and Design Week Benchmark awards along the way.

‘Despite challenging market conditions, we have strengthened relationships with key clients, as well as the creative reputation of our business. We face both a challenge and an opportunity of building on our rich provenance – 35 years in the marketplace – while modernising our offer in line with our clients’ market situation.’

Bolton says, ‘In a short space of time, The Brand Union’s London office has demonstrated considerable progress, and much of this has been due to Simon’s energy, ebullience and intelligence.

‘He is a man passionate about brands with a genuine interest in the creative agenda, which I am sure he will strive to further.’
