Cockpit Arts launches designer-maker award

Cockpit Arts is launching a new award to help established designer-makers to expand their businesses.

The winner of the Cockpit Arts Award will gain a year-long placement at a London-based Cockpit Arts business incubator unit, worth £4000. The studio space, based either in Holborn, WC1 or Deptford, SE8, includes office facilities, business and professional coaching, a personalised development plan, a business development toolkit and access to finance, workshops and events.

The award is open to designer-makers who have been running their own business for at least three years.

‘Even the most talented mid-career makers can reach a sticking point, where a boost in support has been critical to their business success,’ says Cockpit Arts chief executive Vanessa Swann.

‘There is currently a plethora of opportunities for emerging designer-makers but a lack of help for those who are trying to accelerate their businesses. This is something we want to address through The Cockpit Arts Award.’

Luxury goods designer Bill Amberg will judge the first competition, for which the entry deadline is 1 March.
