SMC fits out London spa with ‘snow room’
K West Hotel & Spa is opening its new £2m spa in London on Valentine’s Day, with interiors by SMC Designs.
The K Spa will feature a white reception area with a ‘floating’ glass desk topped by black granite, and Ligne Roset rocking chairs have been selected to furnish the waiting room.
One room will be filled with snow drifts and cooled to -15 ºC, in an attempt to mimic the effects of the traditional Finnish hot/cold sauna-and-snow therapy.
K Spa’s wet spa will feature gold-and-white wall mosaics, with loungers – which are positioned so that couples can face each other – built into the wall. The ceiling features small star lights set in a night-coloured ‘sky’.
The ‘sun meadow’ room, which features light therapies, contains a sunken double-bed.
K West Hotel & Spa appointed SMC Designs in November 2008, briefing the group to create a contemporary, boutique-style spa that would appeal to its ‘young and trendy customers’, says SMC senior designer Robert Mok.
He adds, ‘This hotel has a lot of music industry people staying in it because of the proximity of the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, so it had to appeal to them.’
K West Hotel & Spa, W14, opens on 14 February.
Sounds fab – must visit once opened.
