The consultancy was appointed in 2008 on the strength of its experience in both the aviation and luxury hotel sectors, says JPA design director Alex Duncan.

JPA was tasked with creating modern interiors that would reflect the quality and values of Oman Air’s new premier cabins in its Airbus A330 fleet.

Duncan says, ‘We were briefed to create contemporary interiors that were luxurious and elegant to create a sanctuary for [Oman Air’s] premier customers.’

The two lounges are located on the first floor of the terminal and include dining facilities, quiet rooms, prayer rooms, wash and shower rooms, a business centre and a spa.

The 26-seat first-class lounge (pictured) features a ‘cool gold’ colour palette, whereas the business class is silver and turquoise on a neutral background.

The consultancy used indirect lighting that could be altered to suit the day and night, as the lounges are open 24 hours a day.

JPA also used natural materials and local craftsmen to create some of the fixtures and fittings, including backlit Mashrabiya fretwork screens, which can be lit differently to create a range of moods. It also sourced artwork locally.
