Science Museum’s Beauty in the Making products
The Science Museum’s Inventor in Residence Mark Champkins has created a product range for the museum, which references its own provenance and design.
Beauty in the Making ‘highlights the value of products, and the depth of thought and effort that has gone into creating them,’ says Champkins.
A surface print on each product reveals the story of how its constituent material was produced, and how the product itself was manufactured.
From growing cotton, to refining bauxite to make aluminium, ‘the range aims to highlight what beauty there is in making,’ says Champkins.
‘The invention and manufacture of even the simplest of products has been built upon decades of development, and has required hours of thought, ingenuity and endeavour – from the extraction and refining of materials, to the design of manufacturing machinery and production processes,’ he adds.
The range is available now from the Science Museum shop
