Start nets election Web task

Next May’s Mayoral and London Assembly elections will be publicised through a website which is being designed by Start Creative.

Start was appointed by London Elects, the independent body responsible for informing voters, to design and develop the website, which is due to launch in the autumn.

Sherry has been chosen to produce printed materials for the campaign. These will include a booklet containing Mayoral candidates’ manifestos to be sent to all 5.3 million registered voters, the London Elects monthly newsletter, all training materials and any other publications needed in the campaign.

The website will aim to create a ‘sense of community and promote active participation’.

It will also raise awareness of the role of the Mayor and the London Assembly, while linking with popular social networking sites to encourage people to vote.

London Elects says that the website and literature will be integral elements in its marketing and PR campaign, providing ‘clear and politically impartial information about the election process, motivating people to be involved, encouraging people to register to vote and ensuring that they know when and how to vote’.

Jonathan Cummings, director at Start Creative, says, ‘A major challenge for the democratic process has always been to get the maximum number of people fully engaged in the process of electing representatives. We aim to make full use of technology to do just that.’
