Budding Picassos shine in Square Art awards

Budding fine artists from a number of London’s creative groups lined up to compete for the Square Art award last night in Soho’s Golden Square, W1.

The event was designed to give local creatives a chance to flex their artistic muscles using canvas and sculpture, and challenged the creative community to produce works dedicated to, or inspired by, the old greats.

Entries for the Square Art competition came in from across the agency spectrum with works heralding from the worlds of design, advertising and post-production.

The winning prize, for his painting Munch Scream with Japanese Girl, was awarded to George Belcher, a producer with Soho collective Storyboards.

‘It’s inspired by that insular feeling of helplessness captured in Munch that can suddenly strike from nowhere,’ Belcher says.

Second place went to Simeon Tennant’s Miro.

The event was organised and hosted by post-production company Golden Square Post.
