UK designer Kelly Hoppen is relaunching her website today, following an overhaul by design consultancy Incahoots.

The group was appointed by Hoppen, winner of last month’s Lloyds TSB First Woman Award in the retail and consumer category, in November, following a four-way pitch.

‘We had done the original website so in some ways it was harder, it would have been awful if we’d lost the pitch,’ says Incahoots creative director Susanne Pinter.

Pinter explains that the previous site, which was designed in a pre-broadband era to a 640 x 480 pixel size, needed to physically expand to reflect Hoppen’s growing product ranges, while the designer’s signature style had also changed and the website needed to reflect this.

‘As Kelly’s product range expanded over the next nine years, the site became enormous and bolting on new lines only amplified the need for a redesign,’ says Pinter.

The new 1080 x 720 pixel size is visually more spacious, while featuring a wholly Flash-designed e-commerce site.

Incahoots has worked with Hoppen to incorporate the breadth of the Kelly Hoppen business, from residential and commercial projects to product sections to include carpets, paints, taps, furniture, fabrics, bed linen and a range for Wedgwood. There is also a dedicated section for Hoppen’s published work.

‘Effective e-commerce solutions are built solely around user simplicity and ease of purchase. It’s like any shop really, the better you display the merchandise and the easier it is to buy it, the more you sell,’ says Incahoots’ technical director David Stanley.
