Lambie-Nairn creates Sainsbury’s reusable bags

Sainsbury’s is set to replace its current shopping bag offer with a new range of eight reusable bags designed by Lambie-Nairn.

The supermarket appointed Lambie-Nairn last winter on the strength of the consultancy’s previous work for it.

Sainsbury’s appointed Lambie-Nairn to its formal design roster in 2005.

It briefed the design group to create ‘a range of bags that would work well together and that would communicate Sainsbury’s desire to help improve the environment’, says Lambie-Nairn senior client manager Emma Smilie. ‘The previous collection of bags was built up over the years, designed as and when they were needed, and treated as individual projects,’ adds Smilie.

The plastic and cloth bags feature illustrations of animals, created by Lambie-Nairn senior designer Sue Robertson, as well as slogans such as, ‘I’m nuts about recycling’.

‘This gives each bag a sense of personality, the imagery and first-person copy bringing them to life as friendly objects,’ says Smilie.

The bags will roll out across Sainsbury’s network of stores from mid-July.
