Ruth Ashton wins New Designers One Year On prize
Nottingham Trent University graduate Ruth Ashton has won the New Designers One Year On award Part 1.
Ashton’s work (pictured) combines textile design and illustration. She was presented with the award last night at the Business Design Centre, London, by former rector of the Royal College of Art, Professor Sir Christopher Frayling.
The judges for the One Year On prize were design activist and retailer Thorsten van Elten, Design Week editor Lynda Relph-Knight, and Rachel Moses, marketing manager at Design Nation.
Printed textile designer and Glasgow School of Art graduate Paul Roden was awarded the Business Design Centre New Designers of the Year award. Glassmaker Paul Stopler, who studied at University for the Creative Arts Farnham, was runner-up.
Dont get it?
Sorry
You’d think they could have found somebody more creative to present the award to
I visited New Designers yesterday and saw Ruth Ashton’s work. Her work stands out with great illustrations that make you smile. Well done!

I can t get the idea of this work as shown here. Can you post a better image so we can appreciate the award?
Thank you
what is it? as designer i think it could be better
Ruth’s hand embellished illustrations are one of the most inspiring pieces I have seen in a long while. Not only are her ideas fresh and amusing, but they are technically excellent, such care is taken with each stitch, and her pieces are finished to the highest standard. A truely worthy winner.
Alas I do think that the excellence is lost somewhat in a flat web image. And it would be easier to appreciate with the monsters story, which deserves an award on its own!
It’s great to hear how well you’re doing Ruth, we are really pleased for you!
