UKTI launches Asian trade missions for designers

UK Trade & Investment is seeking British designers to attend a series of trade missions to Asia.

The trips will take place throughout the autumn, lasting between four and six days each. UKTI claims that it will find contacts for design groups before the trips, and that they will be able to network with buyers in China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan at events such as the Seoul Design Olympiad.

Consultancies will be able to participate in a combination of trips to Taiwan and South Korea in October, Tokyo in October and Singapore and China in November.

UKTI design industry adviser Christine Losecaat will lead the visits.

‘We are trying to make the trips as flexible as possible, making them cost effective by combining different countries in one visit,’ says Losecaat, who is expecting about ten consultancies per trip, but could accommodate two or three times that amount.

Losecaat observes that Asia is ‘the one region where the design industry still seems to be buoyant’.

Design groups interested in taking part can contact Losecaat for more details at christine@littledipper.net.
