Design is key to unlocking UK innovation, says Design Council chief

Design Council chief executive David Kester says the design sector can be ‘the key to unlocking UK innovation and future wealth creation’.

Writing in tomorrow’s issue of Design Week, Kester says the sector can be an ‘enabler’ to ‘marry the needs of consumers to the potential of technologies’.

He adds that new economic policy must put the customer or the citizen at the heart of everything that is created and that companies must become defined by their products, not by their stockmarket values.

Kester says, ‘The problem is that too few UK consultancies have absorbed and acted on the liberation of the consumer, user and citizen.’
