LMU course to help product designers develop

London Metropolitan University wants to help product designers improve their business and strategy skills with its New Product Development Programme.

Product and furniture designer Linden Davies is to run the six-day course at the university’s digital manufacturing centre Metropolitan Works.

The course curriculum will include developing a brief, ideation, managing design development, pricing and costing, and the value equation, ‘which is the perceived value of a product and how to increase its value through perception’, according to an LMU spokeswoman.

‘Pricing and costing are areas that designers are not too hot at, so this course will cover retail pricing as well as wholesale and contract,’ says the spokeswoman.

About 12 ‘veteran, experienced’ designers are expected to take the course, which runs this autumn.
