This Nokia Kinetic concept phone uses kinetic movement to stand itself up as a call comes in.
A proximity feature means that ‘stand- up’ can’t be activated in pockets and Innes-Hopkins claims that the phone – which is 8mm thick at the top and 18mm at the bottom – is ergonomically better for the user than other phones.
Innes-Hopkins’ tutor on the project was former Nokia senior designer Silas Grant. Nokia works with the university to facilitate product design briefs and Innes-Hopkins says, ‘I’m waiting to hear back if they can do anything with it.’ Nokia may use the technology in other products.

Deary me. I know Nokia are having to do something different to stand out in the smartphone market, and in principle I think the rising effect this phone would do is very cool, but look at the chunkiness of that base of the phone! It’s massive! Can’t be nice to hold or use.
