Harrogate-based consultancy Robot Food is designing the interiors for the Leeds flagship store of sunglasses and accessories retailer Shade Station.

Robot Food was appointed to this, its first-ever interiors project, without a pitch in January, due to an existing relationship with the client.

Robot Food was briefed to create interiors that were in keeping with the store’s Victoria Quarter shopping arcade location. The interiors use the existing Shade Station branding.

Simon Forster, Robot Food creative director, says, ‘The other designer brands in the arcade have interiors which are all quite moody with nice window displays – it seems the whole arcade is full of marble and dark wood floors.’

The two-storey branch will feature a consultation centre with iPads and computers, where shoppers can show staff what they have been looking at online and find their products.

Robot Food says the interiors will combine ‘mid-century Modern’ style with ‘Baroque influence.’ Tom Dixon copper globe lighting will be used downstairs; while the walls will use a dark grey and black colour palette.

Forster adds, ‘We wanted to go dark and moody so the cabinets and style can showcase the products in the best way.’

The store will open on 1 September.
