It’s a Syn_
Following the sad departure of the Alpha-Ville digital festival, last year saw the organisation turn its focus instead to facilitating beautiful, forward-thinking digital-based performances.
Following on from 2012’s incredible Alpha-Ville Live event, this September will see Alpha-Ville collaborate with BFI Southbank’s Sonic Cinema Series for the premiere of artist Ryoichi Kurokawa’s new audiovisual piece Syn_.
Carmen Salas, Alpha-Ville founder and creative director, says, ‘It took us less than a day to decide we’d go back after last year’s event at the Hackney Empire. London is one of the most vibrant cultural and technological cities in the world and we feel we can play an important role in bringing some of the world’s most innovative artists.’
According to Alpha-Ville, the piece by Berlin-based Japanese artist Kurokawa explores ‘abstract and musical patterns’, developing Kurokawa’s explorations in creating pieces that form an overwhelming synaesthesic effect.
Kurokawa will perform the piece live, using dual projection screens and pulsing ‘clouds of sound’, according to Alpha-Ville to create a miasma of sound, light, colour and imagery that harmonise, antagonise and engulf.
Ryoichi Kurokawa’s Syn_ will take place on 26 September at NFT1, BFI Southbank, Waterloo, London SE1. Visit http://www.bfi.org.uk/ for tickets and click here for more information about Alpha-Ville
