Developed by consultancy Clay Interactive, the app allows people to see inside the Bank’s gold vaults – which house more than 400 000 bars of the precious metal.

Users can also tour the cash vault, where the Bank stores a portion of its stock of banknotes, and visit the central Garden Court, which is guarded by the ‘Bank Giant’, a 2m-tall former bank clerk whose body was buried in the garden in 1798.

The app features high-quality panoramic imagery of the Bank’s interior, as well as interactive content such as a guide to the range of security features found on banknotes.

It has been developed to be used on smartphones, tablets and desktop platforms and additional content can be added, allowing the Bank to build in more features over time.
