Alternative film posters

Print Club London has commissioned a series of ‘alternative’ film posters from illustrators including Rose Blake, Kate Moross and Hattie Stewart.

The posters will be going on display at London’s Somerset House to mark the tenth anniversary of the Film4 Summer Screen film season.

The works include interpretations of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, by Cassandra Yap, and The Royal Tenenbaums, by Concepción Studios.

Meanwhile Rose Blake has created a poster for ET, which was named as the favourite film shown in the Summer Screen season in a public vote.

Blake says, ‘I suppose in my print you are watching the scene from the viewpoint of Elliot’s mother in the film. My print is about saying goodbye to people – I felt the phrase “I’ll be right here” was a really poignant way of doing so.’

The Summer Screen Prints exhibition is at the West Wing Galleries, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R, from 31 July-25 August.

I really don’t see the point in this – I worked in movie advertising for 35 years – this is totally baseless. I worked with Saul Bass, Anthony goldschmidt and Tony seiniger – the best concepts ended up in the bin as you had to go thru marketing at the studios along with producers actors and market research – so the best one’s never made it. Art house movies paid little but gave you more freedom. The worst movie to do is a Gay Paedophile Catholic Priest dying of aids – go market that! I did
