Designers prepare for the Tour de France

Designers have been preparing for the Tour de France, which this year starts in Yorkshire. Ahead of this weekend’s Grand Depart in Leeds, we pick out some of our favourite projects.

Yorkshire in Yellow

Sheffield’s Millennum Gallery is hosting an exhibition of ‘yellow jerseys’ designed by the likes of Wim Crouwel, Margaret Calvert and Alan Dye. The jerseys are hung from the ceiling in ‘peloton’ formation.

Writtle’s Giant Bike

Art and design students at Writtle College in Essex have designed a huge haybale sculpture of a racing cyclist, which will be visible from helicopters covering the Tour de France as it passes.

Maillot Blanc Beer

York-based consultany United by Design has created the Maillot Blanc beer packaging for Treboom Brewery, to mark the Tour de France’s visit to the city.

Philippe Starck and Ross Lovegrove are among the designers showing their bicycle-based creations at Bike Show in Barnsley – a new exhibition celebrating the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire.
