Illustration gets astrological

The shirts, which were designed for Topshop, show all 12 signs of the zodiac.

Van Millingen says, ‘I looked at old tarot cards and researched zodiac imagery from the 60s and 70s, there is a lot of inspiration here and I wanted to give the illustrations a psychedelic feel. 

The illustrator’s sign is Cancer, and she feels the traits of being ‘loving, creative and imaginative’ typical of a Cancerian fit her pretty well.

Discussing the t-shirt project with Topshop, she told the brand that her fashion inspiration is taken form the style of ‘Jane Birkin, Chloe Sevigny and Sandy from Grease’, though ‘when I’m at my studio I have to bear in mind that whatever I’m wearing may be covered in paint by the end of the day!’

Van Milligen’s recent projects have included a collaboration with Mario Testino, and last year her lovely food illustrations.
