Zoo unlimited
Illustrators have undertaken the bold task of creating An Animal Kingdom in a little corner of north London.
This rather Biblical endeavour has been taken on thanks to the new Zoo exhibition, organised by prolific illustrator and curator Mr Gresty.
The exhibition is the latest in Gresty’s LHR series of shows, which take place in three London pubs – The Lauriston, The Hanbury and The Regent .
Previous shows have included Whisper; the colour-based Spectrum exhibition and A is for….?, which saw each participant given a different letter of the alphabet as a starting point for their work.
Zoo will exhibit 28 pieces of work by 22 artists.
Gresty himself has created the rather disquieting Cousin, a picture of a chimp with the eyes of a human:
Zhang Liang Ray, meanwhile, has looked to some very hip cats for inspiration, creating a scene of surreal felines sporting berets, smoking fags, and looking confused by a Smartphone. According to Gresty, these cats are ‘Beijing-inspired’.
We’re also rather fond of Olivia Whitworth’s busy map of the zoo, featuring all the big guns like giraffes, lions and some slightly tubby zebras.
Zoo runs from 11 July – 31 October at The Hanbury, 33 Linton Street, Islington, N1 7DU. For more information visit the event page on Facebook here
