At last night’s D&AD Global Student Awards 2007, Scott Evans from the University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham was honoured with the top prize.

Evans scooped the prize for his video for Radiohead singer Thom Yorke’s solo single The Clock. Taking up the environmental themes of the song, Evans created a type-based promo that graphically highlighted the waste generated by creating and viewing a music video.

The D&AD executive committee, led by its education chairman Garrick Hamm and president Tony Davidson, selected the D&AD Student of the Year winner from the 28 first-prize winners across 32 briefs.

Central St Martins College of Art and Design won 15 D&AD Student Pencils, as well as 24 nominations and 35 in book entries.

Peter Dabbs at Coventry University won a first for his toy design for Hamleys, while Sophie Towler at University College Falmouth received a first for her tongue-in-cheek Spice Up Your Bread Life packaging for Warburtons.

Firsts under the Digital Design discipline were awarded to Leif Lovgreen and Aleister Kelman from Chelsea College of Art and Design for the A Day in Your Life brief.

In the Environmental Design sector, a first was scooped by Paloma Reed from Kingston University for the Enchantment Installation brief.

Five groups were honoured with firsts in the Graphic Design section, including Live Bergitte Molvaer from Central St Martins for the Coutts Flag project, Nick O’Brien from Kingston University for Horror Film Festival, Jacob Blandy, Fredrik Sterner and Hampus Gunnarsson from Central St Martins for the Land Securities brief, Daniel Foster-Smith under the Stuff-o-meter heading and Andrew Manning from University College Falmouth for Postcard Media.

In the Packaging Design section, as well as Towler, Natasha Wynn from University College Falmouth took home a first for her packaging for King Cobra.

Under Product Design, along with Dabbs, Firsts went to David Emblin from the Royal College of Art for his Vitra furniture design, David Michie from Northumbria University for his 3D brand and Caf Fean, Jack Godfrey Wood and Daniel Meyer from Central St Martins for The Ageing Population brief.
