UK Trade & Investment is today calling for UK designers to join it in a trade mission to China this summer.

The aim of the trade mission – which will take place during the last week of the Beijing Olympic Games, from 17-24 August – is to raise the profile of UK design in China, and ultimately win business for UK designers.

Five unannounced representatives from the China Design Taskforce, which includes Conran & Partners and Loewy Group, will attend.

There is space for five designers working within any commercial design discipline to join them.

Sector champion for design and the creative industries at UKTI, Christine Losecaat, says, ‘We would like to hear from representatives in areas including branding, digital and retail who are interested in working in China’.

‘Now is a very relevant time to be highlighting issues of design effectiveness in China, as the country will begin to focus on the UK as the next Olympic host nation,’ she adds.

The mission will include seminars in both Shanghai and Beijing, with a Beijing ‘creative day’ on 22 August, a Royal Institute of British Architects’ seminar in the morning, and a design consultancy seminar in the afternoon.

The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Jones of Birmingham, will participate in the Beijing seminar.

Designers interested in being considered for the trip should e-mail christine@littledipper.net.
