The former global chief operating officer of The Brand Union, Roy Powell, is to join marketing services group Golley Slater as its executive finance director next month.

Golley Slater is understood to have headhunted Powell, who left the then Enterprise IG at the end of 2005.

Alex Spark has since filled Powell’s shoes as global chief finance officer, says The Brand Union chief executive Simon Bolton.

Powell’s arrival at Golley Slater is expected to herald a raft of acquisitions within the digital and media buying arenas, and industry observers speculate that his appointment could signal preparation for a possible flotation.

Powell, a qualified accountant, began his career as European finance director of Saatchi & Saatchi in the early 1980s. He was made chief operating officer of WPP-owned group The Brand Union in 2003.

Golley Slater chief executive Chris Lovell has increased turnover of the privately owned business to £50m since buying it in 2003.
