Glastonbury airing for digital work
The BBC will showcase leading digital work from around the UK at Glastonbury Festival this weekend.
The BBC Village Screen initiative will see the work of film-makers, digital artists, VJs and games developers projected on to 25m-square screens.
The screening has been brought about in a collaboration between the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Cultural Olympiad, the Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sport and the BBC.
Content has been chosen by regional screen agencies such as South West Screen, which selected ten hours of footage, including Rebel Viral’s short film created for the Institute of Engineering and Technology (pictured).
The event is the precursor of another Cultural Olympiad and BBC tie-up, BBC Big Screens, which will see giant screens rolled out across the country in time for the 2012 games.
The creative programmer for London 2012, Richard Crowe, says the village screen project will ‘provide an opportunity for emerging creative talent to reach a wide audience’.
He adds, ‘It will allow us to explore and demonstrate the interactive potential of live sites across the UK.’
Short messages will interrupt the display to invite creatives to submit entries for big-screen events at next year’s Glastonbury, UK-wide sites for live Olympic coverage, other London 2012 activity and the Legacy Trust programme.
