Innovation Secretary Denham likely to move in Cabinet reshuffle

Innovation Secretary John Denham looks likely to be promoted in the forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle.

Denham, who has held his post at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills since June 2007, was spotted going into 10 Downing Street for a meeting yesterday, sparking rumours that he could replace either Home Secretary Jacqui Smith or Communities Secretary Hazel Blears.

Both Smith and Blears have announced they will be standing down from the Cabinet in the reshuffle, which is expected to follow the results of today’s European and local elections.

During his time at DIUS, Denham has unveiled a Government innovation strategy and announced a £200m fund to help plug skills gaps in the product and digital design sectors.
