Oakwood ranked top design group in South West

Oakwood Media Group is the most successful design group in the South West, according to a list of the top 100 creative companies in the region.

Compiled by local creative business network Bristol Media, The Top 100 South West Creative Companies 2009 ranks design and digital groups, advertising and marketing agencies and animation, publishing, TV and film companies according to their turnover.

With its annual turnover of £6.3m, Oakwood Media Group ranks first among design groups and joint 14th overall in the Top 100. Epoch Design comes in second among design consultancies and 18th overall, with a turnover of £4.1m. Ignition DG, Studio Six and Design Activity complete the top five design groups in terms of turnover.

Digital design groups E3 Media and 3Sixty Internet both make it into the the top five ‘most respected’ groups, voted for by local creative businesses. Aardman Animations tops the category and comes in fourth by turnover, at £17m a year.

Publishing house Future ranks first in the top 100 by turnover, followed by advertising agency Bray Leino and TV company Twofour.

The top ten ‘ones to watch’ section, selected by Bristol Media, includes design groups Play Nicely and Bob Design & Marketing. It also features three digital groups – Open Communication Design, Gobe Digital and Mobile Pie.

The list, which was independently audited by accountant Smith Williamson, finds that the creative industry contributes more than £500m to the region’s economy annually.
