Portland Mudra will incorporate a team of three or four designers based in Mumbai, as well as sending UK-based designers over to India on exchanges, ‘to ensure that the Mumbai team delivers the Portland design mission’, the group says in a statement.
The new consultancy hopes to create ‘environmentally and commercially sustainable malls’ in India.
‘We are convinced that if retailers and developers simply adopt traditional mall formats then that will be a lost opportunity. Community focused and truly integrated mixed-use [formats] are the way forward,’ says Portland director Lewis Allen.
Besides interior design, Portland Mudra will also offer print and digital design services.
The new company will start operating from Mudra Group’s Mumbai office in July.
